Siberian Ginseng Extract - Improve Vitality & Longevity

Siberian ginseng (scientific name - Eleutherococcus Senticosus) is a plant that has been used for its therapeutic properties for centuries in many Eastern cultures. These cultures have traditionally used this herb to prevent colds and as a tonic to attain vitality and longevity.

This herb also goes by other names, most notably being eleuthero. The Chinese call it cì wǔ jia. Other names include devil's shrub, Russian ginseng, shigoka, touch-me-not and wild pepper.

Actually Siberian ginseng is not a "ginseng" at all but rather a distant relative of Panax ginseng. The herb was dubbed Siberian ginseng because it has similar properties to a true ginseng plant.

Health Benefits

Currently, Siberian gingseng or eleuthero, is most commonly taken as an adaptogen. Adaptogenic herbs help people cope with both physical and mental stress. Their therapeutic actions also adapt to people's particular condition in order to bring the body into harmony.

So for example, if you have a hyperfunctioning system within your body, an adaptogen with tone it down. If you have a hypofunction system, an adaptogen will strengthen the system's activity.

Various studies of this plant have shown that:

A. Those who take it experience a reduction in the severity and length of colds and flu.

B. It can improve good/bad cholesterol levels in post menopausal women

C. It can reduce glucose levels in insulin deficient animals

D. It can reduce the length and severity of herpes viral infection

E. It can improve memory and physical stamina

Available Forms

Siberian ginseng supplements are made from the root which contains eleutherosides, polysaccharides and other medicinal components.

Supplements are available as dried or cut root for tea, in capsule form, liquid and solid extract forms and as powders.

It is important that you pay attention to potency as many of these supplements contain very little amounts of the herb. Only buy Siberian ginseng from reputable health stores.

Dosage

For chronic fatigue, take eleuthero for 3 months with 2 - 3 weeks off. You can repeat this cycle but check with your health care provider first before you start to taking it. This herb is not to be taken by children

The recommended adult dosages are:

I. Dried root for tea or capsules - 500 - 3,000 mg per day

II. Tincture - 1/2 - 1 teaspoons, 2 - 3 times per day

III. Standardized extract: 100 - 200 mg, 2 times per day

Side Effects

Many people take Siberian ginseng supplements or tinctures on a daily basis with no ill effects.
For the majority of healthy people, it is perfectly safe to consume.

However, to be on the safe side, consult your doctor before taking this or any other supplement. If you have a condition (such as high blood pressure or diabetes), are pregnant and/or on medication, it is mandatory to consult your physician.

Some people who have taken eleuthero have reported the following adverse reactions: insomnia, drowsiness, headaches, nervousness and tachycardia.

Bottomline

Many people still turn to prescription medicine to achieve harmony and overall health within their bodies only to suffer from some very dangerous side effects.

But returning to nature via taking herbs or herbal supplements, is one of the best ways to improve your overall health - safely. Just ask the Chinese who have done so successfully for about 5000 years.

In this high stress world we live in, Siberian ginseng tea, capsule or tincture represents a healthier way to help you handle stress, increase energy and boost your immune system. Just what the doctor ordered!
