Ginkgo Biloba Herb – Why The Chinese Think It Is So Great

Ginkgo biloba herb, also known as maidenhair tree, is a type of tree without close relatives. It is the only extant species in the family ginkgoaceae.

For many years, ginko biloba was thought to be extinct. But now, it is known to be abundant in Zhejiang province in Eastern China and other parts of the world.

It is believed that the ginkgo trees in China were planted by Chinese monks over a thousand years due to its medicinal benefits.

Extracts of leaves are now known to contain flavonoid glycosides and terpenoids, which are used in the treatment of dementia or to prevent  Alzheimer’s Disease.

Ginkgo is known to have nootropic properties, which are important properties in the treatment of bad memory. Nootropic properties are used as a memory enhancer.

Another condition this herb is used for is in the treatment of tinnitus (ringing in the ears).

The herb is also purported to increase blood flow to the brain and through the body’s blood vessels and may have reduce cancer tumors. It has antioxidant properties, which protect the cardiovascular and central nervous system from negative effects of aging.

Its antioxidant effects is said to decrease the risk of heart ailments, such as atherosclerosis.

Collectively, these health benefits have made gingko, one of the most popular herbal remedies.

However, even though the Chinese swear by the herb, no major studies have yet to conclusively support the claimed medicinal benefits of ginkgo biloba.

When you buy gingko supplements, it is best to stick to the recommended dosage, which for adults is around 120 mg daily in two or three divided doses.

Taking the extract in this amount is considered safe and should produce minimal or no side effects.

But should you consume ginkgo biloba seeds, do not do so in large quantities over a long period of time. This is because the flesh of the raw seed can cause poisoning or allergic reactions such as diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

And if you are on any type of medication, seek your doctor’s advice before taking a herb in any form.

Overall, just play it safe and you should only experience the marvelous health benefits of gingko.
