Chamomile Tea – Helping You Sleep Like A Baby

Known for its calming and sleep inducing effect, chamomile tea has become one of the most popular herbal teas.

The camomile plant is daisy-like in its appearance and smells like freshly cut apples. Just smelling it will give you a soothing feeling.

For centuries, the chamomile herb has been used for medicinal purposes. Ancient Egyptians used it to treat colds and to combat signs of aging.

In modern times, this herb continues to used for a variety of ailments. The U.S. National Library of Medicine lists over 100 separate ailments that this herb can treat.

Even though you can getchamomile supplements, it is the tea that has become the most popularly consumed form. Some people simply buy chamomile herbal tea bags or make the tea from chamomile flowers.

Either way, its soothing and relaxing effect is great for people who suffer from anxiety, depression or have sleeping problems.

Camomile tea has a sedating and relaxing aroma that helps insomniacs fall asleep. It is even believed that drinking the tea before going to bed helps prevent having nightmares.

It has also been proven to be an effective remedy for indigestion and other gastrointestinal maladies. It can help the muscles in the digestive tract to relax, fight flatulence, give some relief from stomach ulcers and alleviate inflammation in gastrointestinal linings.

Recent studies conducted in the UK reveal that people who are constantly drinking chamomile tea have strengthened immune system due to its anti-bacterial properties.

However, to experience even a wider scope of health benefits fromcamomile, look beyond just drinking the tea.

Some experts claim that chamomile aromatherapy can be an effective treatment for common cold symptoms and respiratory diseases like asthma and sinusitis. However, more research is needed in this area.

Camomile douche can be used to treat vaginitis and chamomile oil can be used to treat skin inflammation, burns and eczema.

Whilst the herb is relatively safe, if you plan on driving or operating machinery, you shouldn’t drink chamomile tea as it will induce drowsiness.

It is also best to avoid it during pregnancy since it is a uterine stimulant or can lead to abortion.

If you are on medication – seek your doctors advice before taking it.

For most adults – drinking 1-4 cups of  chamomile tea a day should be just fine and a great way to relax in this beautiful, but stressful world we live.
